BUICK SERVICE TIPS: HOW TO JUMP A CAR

When the temperature drops, things can go wrong with your vehicle, especially with your battery. That’s why it’s a good idea to know how to jump your car in case an emergency occurs. If your vehicle requires Buick service, follow these simple jumpstarting steps from our technicians.

Step 1: To jump your battery, you’ll need another car, which should be driven up close to the car with the dead battery. Both vehicles then need to be turned off.

Step 2: Pop the hoods and get your jumper cables out.

Step 3: Attach the red clip to the positive terminal on the dead battery. Look for a POS or a plus-sign if you’re lost. Then, attach the other end to the same terminal on the working battery. Attach the black clip to the negative terminal (look for a minus-sign) on the working battery, and the other end to an unpainted metal surface on the vehicle with the dead battery.

Step 4: Start the working car and let it run for a little while. Afterwards, start the non-working car. If things have gone as they should, the formerly dead battery should now be alive again.

Step 5: Drive around for a while (at least 15 minutes) so the battery can get fully recharged.
